Still Obsessed with Number Bibs

I Love these and can't imagine why they are not taking off.  Now I don't mean, "I can't  believe you don't want to buy these," I mean "I can't believe that I haven't seen a version of this popping up on blog-land!"  I think they are so cute and avoid the size issue with onsies.
Gender-neutral dots

Then again, I don't have kiddos, so I'm not always the best judge of what Mommies are into.
One for Sis - with coordinating drawstring bag to keep it all in one

My sister IS into them.  I first gave her one of the trapezoid versions, and she swooned (which made me strut like a peacock!!).  Then, she asked if I would make a few for upcoming baby showers that she had.  I happily obliged.

She also wanted a shabby chic boy version.  This was cute blue fabric with textured felt numbers.

Plus a coordinating bag to keep everything together in between uses.

Endless Possibilities Wreath

I love this wreath tutorial because truly it leads to endless possibilities!!
Vintage Fabric Wreath DIY
I bought a green foam wreath form at 50% off from a craft store.  NO batting was applied.  I like the more rectangular look of this instead of a bulkier, rounder look once there is a layer of batting (plus it made this process easy peasy!)

A little accent

A friend of mine bought me vintage fabric from the local flea market last summer.  It was very thin, but very cute fabric.  I literally tore (4) ~3"strips of the fabric (WOF was closer to 60").  Using tiny push pins, I started a strip and used a push pin to attach it to the back of the wreath form.  I wrapped the fabric around the wreath form overlapping each rotation.  As I ended one strip, I made sure it was on the back side so I could use push pin to attach and another to begin the next strip.  Repeat until the entire wreath is covered.
Love the raw edges
You know my obsession with these fabric flowers right?  I made three blooms (1) 2.5", (1) 3", and (1) 3.5".  I still used the lapel pin glued to the back and simply pushed the pin into the foam wreath form.  You can just see the edge of the pin in the above photo.

I leave it hanging on a simple nail in the entry as a way to add a bit of height to the space.

I've seen this basic tutorial using multiple strips of fabric, modern prints, with finished edges, with yarn, with...., ....., .... and on and on!!  I need about 100 more wreath forms now as I like this one too much to unwrap and re-use as I originally intended.

Color Me Organized - Child Craft Apron

Craft aprons
Hello, Hello!  Long time no post.  I have done LOADS of crafts in the last 9 months, but I haven't written about a single one.  I hate when people apologize for not posting, but I just did it anyway.  I have thought about posting about 6 times since my last one.  I had a long break during last summer as I was "DIY"ing our basement.  I started a few drafts of progress posts, but never got around to pics.  I think I really will take those soon.

Then came the start of the school year, which = busy teacher.

Then came the shock of 1,000 (mild sarcasm here) Christmas goals.  So I finally get why people have Christmas in July blog posts - apparently to help keep sanity you should begin preparing your all homemade Christmas "To Do" list before 12/5.  So noted for future years.  I got almost everything I wanted to done, but didn't take a SINGLE picture!!!!  I think I was just so excited to get it done that I wrapped each up before I even thought of pics.

Marker/crayon slots + anything goes pockets
I will likely replicate some of those in the months to come - I'll blog about them then.

So onto pics which is why almost anyone reads blogs anyway!  One project that I did end up giving as a Cmas gift was a craft apron.  I got the idea from a colleague who wanted one for her daughter.  I guess it was not what she had in mind since after I went to the trouble of designing and creating a pattern and several color options she said they were cute and didn't buy a single one.  Silly me - she mentioned wanting one for her son, went to the trouble of making a pattern and one of those too and of course....
you guessed it.  Still sitting in my craft area - GRRRRRR!!!!!

Black with yellow lined pockets.
I did however, find that my 2-year old niece LOVED the colors of one of the aprons and thought for as much as she is always crafting she might enjoy "dress-up" in the process!  She got the pink one.

Last day of vacation. Stopped at the race track on our way to the airport. Won $8.10 on this race

And that will likely be it!!!!

Back to sewing tomorrow or Monday hopefully - should have my do. Good stitches blocks to start laying out when I get back.

An even better hiades

So I still haven't been crafting much. This time for an even warmer reason ....

This is our view from our back door- not too shabby huh!?! Can't exactly tell in the pic, but that is the Gulf of Mexico just beyond the sea wall.

Back to reality, fabric, and sewing machines in a couple days.

Pieced "trunks"

I saw a post that linked to a post about fancy pieced backs of quilts (I immediately thought of junk in the trunk when I heard "back" because I am nerdy and apparently immature - hence the post name.

I realized that I haven't really shown off many of the backs of my quilts - maybe a small shot here and there, but not full shots.

Here they are. Some I like, one I HATE!!! But was tired enough of dealing with it that I didn't take it apart and redo it.

Back of the "learn my shapes" playmat

Yucky picture of the back of the zigzag quilt

Below is the one I just regret. Didn't turn out how I thought it would when I thought of it. It looks too inconsistent and chopped up. The quilting pattern though makes it look decent if you don't focus on the entire back at once.

Back of the Hunky Dory quilt that I am trying to finish up the binding on this week.

Apparently I don't always take picture of the backs of my quilts - oops. I love the idea of a pieced back. It is the same sort of smile that I get when you see an adorable baby outfit only to turn it around to see it has something cute on the tush!

Sew time

SOOOO, I am not at home. Every year (for the past 5), I head out of town to grade AP exams. - you know, those exams the the smarty-pants kids who are in high school but trying to take a high school class for college credit have to take to get the credits to count at college take - yea, the Psychology ones of those. About 400 of us get hired by the testing company to sit in a room and grade 8 hours a day for 7 days straight. We are half-way through!! Well with the days at least. We had 199,000 test to grade this year and have about 48% done last I heard.

So since I was going to be gone, my machine went in for it's yearly physical exam - and I am stuck in a hotel room without a machine. Not wanting to waste time, I sewed a binding to the front of a quilt right before I left and brought it with me to work on hand sewing it to the back.

My night stand adornments for the week...

It has been going fairly well, after staring at some of the most atrocious handwriting during the day, it is nice to work on something that gives my eyes a break. (yes, that is how awful the handwriting is, staring at tiny stitches makes my eyes feel BETTER!!)

Making progress, but only about half done. My goal was to be finished by today - I guess I will give myself an extension.
